What counts as an AI project?
An AI project is one that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to create something, or to solve a problem using a data-driven approach. For example, it may use machine learning (ML). For a Coolest Projects submission, your project should include one or more of the following:
Problem solving with AI: Explore how AI can be applied in creative and fun ways to make an impact, big or small. This could be anything from improving daily tasks, enhancing technology, supporting education, or even just experimenting with a cool idea. Let your imagination lead the way!
Data-driven approach: AI systems need data to learn and generate output. Your project could harness a pre-existing data set — such as images, text, or numbers — to train your AI model, or you might integrate your AI with other programming elements for a unique twist. The focus is on using data to power your model, but how you build around it is up to you!
Creating an application: ML models are used to make predictions. Your submission could feature an application that utilises a model’s predictions to perform a task or make a decision. This could be a model you’ve created yourself or one that already exists. Alternatively, you could submit an ML model on its own — and if you built the model yourself, just be sure to show how you built it, what data you trained it with, and its purpose.
Creative and ethical use of AI: While building your project, think creatively about how AI can solve problems or make something cool in a new way. At the same time, consider how to use AI responsibly, making sure your project is fair, safe, and doesn’t harm anyone.
As a minimum for a project to be entered in Coolest Projects, your submission should demonstrate the use of a machine learning model (your own or a pre-existing one).
