MindfulMigrane

The Project

The proposed wearable device app, "Mindful Migraine", is designed to help people with migraines better manage their condition. By utilizing the existing sensors on the Apple Watch Series 7/8, such as sweat and blood pressure sensors, ambient light sensors, accelerometer, barometer, and gyroscope sensors, and local weather data, the app is able to predict when a user is at risk of developing a migraine. According to the JAMA Network, on January 4, 2022, 10% of people worldwide suffer from migraines, three times more common in women than men. A typical migraine attack lasts from 4-72 hours and is characterized by throbbing (and sometimes debilitating) pain, nausea, vomiting, and in some cases could result in visual disturbances called “auras”. The app would provide real-time alerts to the user's Apple Watch or other connected devices, warning them of potential triggers like changes in the weather (temperature), atmospheric pressure, galvanic skin response, direct sunlight exposure or high levels of physical activity. Additionally, the app would include a migraine journal feature that would allow users to track their symptoms and triggers over time, providing valuable insights that could be shared with healthcare providers . By utilizing the most mainstream wearable device, the Apple Watch, and implementing the app on both Wear OS and iOS-connected devices, "Mindful Migraine" has the potential to reach a wide audience, including college students, busy professionals, and anyone else who suffers from migraines. The app's user-friendly interface and comprehensive tracking features would make it easy for users to manage their migraines and take control of their health. Overall, the "Mindful Migraine" app has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of people who suffer from migraines. By providing early warnings of potential triggers and offering tools for tracking and managing symptoms, the app could help people better understand and manage their condition, potentially reducing the frequency and severity of their migraines and improving their quality of life.
