MindfulMigrane

The Project

The proposed wearable device app, "Mindful Migraine", is designed to help people with migraines better manage their condition. By utilizing the existing sensors on the Apple Watch Series 7/8, such as sweat and blood pressure sensors, ambient light sensors, accelerometer, barometer, and gyroscope sensors, and local weather data, the app is able to predict when a user is at risk of developing a migraine. According to the JAMA Network, on January 4, 2022, 10% of people worldwide suffer from migraines, three times more common in women than men. A typical migraine attack lasts from 4-72 hours and is characterized by throbbing (and sometimes debilitating) pain, nausea, vomiting, and in some cases could result in visual disturbances called “auras”. The app would provide real-time alerts to the user's Apple Watch or other connected devices, warning them of potential triggers like changes in the weather (temperature), atmospheric pressure, galvanic skin response, direct sunlight exposure or high levels of physical activity. Additionally, the app would include a migraine journal feature that would allow users to track their symptoms and triggers over time, providing valuable insights that could be shared with healthcare providers . By utilizing the most mainstream wearable device, the Apple Watch, and implementing the app on both Wear OS and iOS-connected devices, "Mindful Migraine" has the potential to reach a wide audience, including college students, busy professionals, and anyone else who suffers from migraines. The app's user-friendly interface and comprehensive tracking features would make it easy for users to manage their migraines and take control of their health. Overall, the "Mindful Migraine" app has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of people who suffer from migraines. By providing early warnings of potential triggers and offering tools for tracking and managing symptoms, the app could help people better understand and manage their condition, potentially reducing the frequency and severity of their migraines and improving their quality of life.

We chose to make this project because...

I have seen my mom struggle with migraines for years, and many family members with this unfortunate condition, so i wanted to create an idea with my friend to provide a possible future solution for the millions who suffer from migraine attacks.

What we found difficult and how we worked it out

Developing a solution to reduce the frequency and severity of migraines using existing technology. Therefore, we had to speak with several family members, health care professionals, and do very thorough research to figure out what actually causes and triggers migraine attacks in people's daily lives

Next time, we would...

Working on the"Mindful Migraine"project, I found coding the UI to be a bit challenging, especially when it came to placing objects and creating clickable text . Looking back, I would have liked to spend more time refining the user interface to make it even more user-friendly.
