The Project

TheifCatcher is an application that keeps an eye on the surroundings of properties to alert the home owner via SMS text, if a Theif or unidentified figure has been detected a little too close to the property. Theives nowadays are common due to recession and prices becoming high.

Back in my hometown, Chennai, India, my grandparents' pipes were stolen at late night. The next day, their water wasn't working throughout the apartment. That cost them money, time and waste of water. I decided to create TheifCatcher to resolve this problem. Coding + Helping, what a dream!

Using the SMS text message feature took me a long time to get a hang of. I haven't used Twilio before, using Cloud and SMS was a completely new topic for me. I was able to achieve it with patience and tons of googling. Debugging took most of the process.

If I had more time, I would actually make this project into realtime meaning home owners could effectively add their live video feed into Theif Catcher. I took a poll and asked my friends/family if they think this would be an effective solution including my grandparents.
