Foam Flinging Turret

The Project

This is a "Foam Flinging Turret Toy." It holds 12 foam balls which can be shot out in multiple directions. It is remote-controlled by a computer (wired for better connection but blue tooth connection is possible) and uses a Microcontroller (MegaPi Pro) to run. We chose this one because of its operating voltage and its H-Bridge modules. Other than that we used broken toys, Arduino-type robotics kits, and lots of cardboard.

We chose to make this project because...

My brother and I wanted to learn about each other's skills in programming and robotics. So we decided to work on this project because it seemed like an achievable goal and I had recently harvested some parts from some broken toys we had. We did it so we could bond over common interests.

What we found difficult and how we worked it out

We had a very hard time figuring out how to get the project to turn, we ran through a few ideas but they all would have gotten the wires tangled up. So we came up with the idea to use a pulley system. It allowed a limit on the range that it rotates without the chance of breaking the motor.

Next time, we would...

We would probably add a separate remote control independent of a computer. Another thing we would want is a better pully system for the turning of the turret. We would also want to code it in Arduino C or Python-Circuit so we could have better control over the motors and be able to use an app.
