Stock Scout

The Project

Stock Scout is a mobile app that helps beginner investors better understand market sentiment around different stocks. I was inspired to create this project because many new investors only look at stock prices, but they often do not understand the online discussion and public mood behind those movements. Stock Scout collects Reddit discussions and stock-related data for a ticker, analyzes whether the discussion is positive, neutral, or negative, and displays the results through a simple sentiment trend chart. The project was built with Flutter for the mobile app, a backend API for collecting and processing data, Reddit data analysis, sentiment analysis, chart visualization, Firebase authentication, and user history features. One of the most difficult parts was connecting the frontend and backend smoothly while making the sentiment results easy for users to understand. Another challenge was working with noisy online text, because Reddit posts can be emotional, informal, and sometimes unclear. I learned how to combine mobile app development, data processing, API design, and user interface design into one complete project. In the future, I want to improve Stock Scout by adding more data sources, a stronger finance-specific sentiment model, and clearer explanations for beginners. The goal of Stock Scout is not to give financial advice, but to help users understand market sentiment more responsibly.
