Nimbus Guitar 2000

The Project

Our project is an electric guitar made using two BBC micro:bit devices, tinfoil and crocodile clips. We wanted to create a fun project that combines music, coding, and electronics. The tinfoil acts like guitar strings. When a person touches the tinfoil while touching the ground cable, the circuit is completed. The micro:bits can then detect the touch and play musical notes through their speakers. Each micro:bit was programmed to play different notes. By using two micro:bits together, we were able to make more sounds and play more notes. We were inspired by real electric guitars and wanted to see if we could build our own version using simple materials and coding. We also wanted to learn more about how circuits and technology can be used to create music. One of the difficult parts of the project was making sure all the wires and crocodile clips were connected properly so that the guitar would work every time. It also took time to code the correct notes and test the touch inputs. We enjoyed making this project because it is interactive, creative, and fun to play. It shows how simple materials and coding can be used to build a working musical instrument.
