Breaking the Noise: Which Materials Are Best for Noise Reduction?
The Project
Aim: To investigate and compare the sound insulation properties of different materials using a micro:bit-based system. Why I chose this project: I chose this project because urban noise pollution is an escalating problem that directly threatens our concentration, health, and well-being. By investigating which materials offer the best sound insulation, this study bridges theoretical wave physics with practical material science to find real-world design solutions. Ultimately, understanding how energy interacts with matter allows us to create quieter, more productive spaces in our homes, schools, and communities. A transmitter and receiver was coded and different insulating materials were tested to see which had the best sound proofing qualities.
