Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

The Project

We developed a desktop application called Reduce your carbon footprint. We live in Turkey. We are high school students. We are students in the information Technologies department at Ataturk Vocational and Technical High School. We developed a project aimed at Climate Action, which is the 13th goal of Sustainable Development Goals. With the questions we asked, we learned how much carbon the user emitted. For example; By collecting information such as the number of people living in the house, electricity consumption, natural gas consumption, heating expenses, whether they have a car or a motorcycle, how many kilometers they travel per month, and plane travels, we find out how much carbon emissions they cause. We show the user how many trees he/she planted to compensate for this carbon emission. Finally, if the amount of carbon emission is high, we want to raise the awareness of the user by offering our suggestions. Even though the amount is low, we motivate the user by giving him/her the climate hero badge. The most difficult part in this project was to solve the carbon emission formula. If we had a little more time, we could make inferences from all the data entered by users. We are thinking of adding this to our project. Thank you for your attention!
