The Project
EcoSort AI is an app that helps people figure out whether an item goes in recycling, compost, or landfill. I was inspired to make it because waste sorting can be confusing, and putting things in the wrong bin can hurt recycling and the environment. One of the biggest challenges was making the machine learning model accurate enough for real-world use. Some waste items look very similar but belong to different categories, which made classification difficult. Another challenge was optimizing the model to run efficiently on a phone. I had to balance accuracy and performance so that the app could provide fast results without lag.
