DigiScratch
The Project
This project lets you scratch digital music like a DJ, but without using or damaging real vinyl records or needles. I used a record-shaped disc that spins by hand, and it's connected to a 3D-printed knob attached to a sensor. When you move the disc, the sensor sends the movement to software that adds scratch effects to an MP3 file. It feels like you're actually DJing on a turntable, but everything happens digitally. I built it to combine the hands-on feel of vinyl with the convenience of digital music.
