Telling Emoji
The Project
Mood Detector is a fun and interactive project that uses machine learning to understand your mood based on the text you type. Built using Teachable Machine and Scratch, the program reads your input and shows an emoji that matches your feelings. For example, if you type something positive like "good" or "great," it displays a happy emoji. If you type something negative, like "bad" or "I didn’t like it," it shows an unhappy emoji. We were inspired by the way technology can understand human emotions and respond accordingly—just like in chatbots and smart assistants. We wanted to explore how machine learning can be used in a creative, simple way to help computers understand mood through text. The most challenging part was training the model to recognize different moods from a variety of phrases. People express feelings in many ways, so we had to include lots of examples of both positive and negative sentences. Getting the model to respond accurately and connecting it with Scratch for a smooth user experience also took some effort and testing.
