Hunting the Hunter
The Project
1.Tell us about your project. Why did you choose to make it? My project is a platform game called Hunting the Hunter. It is about a lion going on a quest across the grasslands to stop a hunter. I made it on MakeCode Arcade - this is a website similar to Scratch but is designed for making arcade games. For example, there are blocks like “game over”. I chose to make my project because I like animals and also platform games are some of the best games you can make on Arcade. I also wanted to use the “animation” blocks which I hadn’t used much before. 2.What did you find difficult while making your project and how did you work it out? A very difficult thing was how I had to redo my project twice. I originally made it on a Chromebook and got very far - I only needed to do the boss level and some animation. Then the game simulator to test the game stopped working and all of my code disappeared. I was very upset but began redoing it on the same Chromebook. However, the next day the Sprite images and platforms I had designed disappeared and I couldn’t move the blocks around properly. The simulator still wouldn’t load. To solve this problem, instead of giving up I redid it on a different device. On Arcade, projects you make are only saved on that device, so I had to redo all my code again for the second time. There were no problems on this device except the “overlap” blocks, like “on sprite of kind ___ overlaps other sprite of kind ___”, weren’t working. I solved this problem by using “if then” blocks instead. Everything else was fine. 3.Is there anything you would do differently or you would add if you had more time? If I had more time, I would make two more levels, a boss level where you defeat the hunter, and animation for when the lion walks around or roars. I might also try and figure out why the overlap blocks weren’t working, then I could do even more with my project. I might make the levels harder as I feel this version is not as good as the original one that disappeared.
