I chose to make this project because...

I created SmartSort to tackle waste mismanagement and climate change. By automating waste audits, I aimed to make them more frequent and accessible, improving recycling rates and reducing landfill use.

What I found difficult and how I worked it out

Developing an AI to accurately identify various waste types was challenging. I used the Gemini-Vision-Pro model and improved its accuracy to 95% through iterative testing and training.

Next time, I would...

With more time, I would add augmented reality (AR) features to teach real-time waste sorting and expand our data set for greater accuracy across different regions. I'd also enhance the user interface based on feedback.
