CyberHarbor

The Project

CyberHarbor addresses the pressing issue of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, particularly targeting small businesses that lack robust cybersecurity measures. These attacks flood networks and render services unavailable. It's obvious that it can have devastating consequences for businesses, from financial losses to reputational damage. By providing free and accessible DDoS protection, CyberHarbor aims to mitigate the impact of these attacks and safeguard the digital presence of these enterprises. Our slogan is "AI for Accessibility!" as it provides essential cybersecurity resources to underserved small businesses, which ensures their accessibility to protection against evolving cyber threats.

We chose to make this project because...

USACO was a target of DDoS in Jan 2024. It caused thousands of people unable to submit their codes, including me, and fail the contest. It depressed me, but eventually inspired me to solve this ever-lasting problem for ALL. This ambitious idea motivated me to the creation of this project.

What we found difficult and how we worked it out

Training models can be time-consuming and requires computational resources. Generating pcap file from user is also a challenge, because it may result in buggy outcomes due to unexpected user input. Lastly, hyperparameter tuning involves randomness, making it essential to manage the variability.

Next time, we would...

Attackers are constantly refining their intrusion tactics, therefore we extends beyond our solution to a sustained, evolving defense mechanism. Despite its slower response compared to our model, the new reinforcement learning model offers dynamic defense and much-increased accuracy.
