Lost in the British Isles

The Project

My project is about making awareness of endangered animals - not the ones far away from where I live (UK) like Bengal tigers or white rhinos. I wanted to show other people like me in the UK that there are many animals that still need saving close to us, and let everyone realise how widespread the risk of extinction is. For example, wild horses were wiped out due to habitat loss, but thanks to conservation, Konik horses have been introduced to keep our grasslands thriving.

Team Comments

I chose to make this project because...

When I watched 'Wild Isles' narrated by David Attenborough, I realised that I barely knew any of the animals. It showed me how poorly known they were, so I wanted to raise more awareness - through a game!

What I found difficult and how I worked it out

Initially, the movement was glitchy. Eventually I found a solution by adapting some of Griffpatch's tutorial code to suit my project, but that had mishaps along the way! Changes include: making the character sense sprites instead of colours, and a few of the numbers too.

Next time, I would...

I would add more levels: Level 2, a New Forest Cicada (woodland); Level 3, a Smooth Snake (Heathland) and Level 4 with an undecided animal (coastal). I want to have 2 animals in each habitat, and I would have the 2nd grassland level to be a large blue butterfly, which has an interesting life cycle!
