Automated Vermiculture Monitoring System Using Arduino
The Project
The Vermicompost Monitoring System is based on Arduino. The project is mainly built using Soil Moisture sensor, measuring the moisture content of the compost inside the compost bin. The temperature, humidity and moisture of the compost should be well maintained for the earthworms healthy environment.
Team Comments
I chose to make this project because...Having a Vermicompost at home will produce rich soil with nutrients for plants to grow healthy. If all households have their own vegetable garden, then this would reduce frequent visits to grocery stores in vehicles using gasoline or diesel. Thus reducing the carbon footprint and pollution.
What I found difficult and how I worked it out1. The most difficult part of the project was to have an actual vermicompost to show the demo. 2. Integrating with Relay was difficult.
Next time, I would...1. The current project has a wired LCD display to show the status of the compost bin. In the future, I will add a wireless communication to the LCD, so that main monitoring unit can be outside, and the LCD inside the house to monitor the status. 2. Collect and log data for analysis.
