InterComFm Offline communication for times of disaster
The Project
The internet is always unavailable at the time of our greatest need for it, at the time of disasters. The solution that we have developed will enable people of a geographical area to communicate with each other in times of need. With our project we can establish communication infrastructure for times of disaster using resources available everywhere. Using a combination of technologies, we can set up resilient and robust communication infrastructure for times of disaster. Aims and Objectives To provide reliable communication infrastructure at low costs. To design a readily available open-source device that can be implemented beforehand which will enables people to communicate without using the internet during times of disaster.
Team Comments
We chose to make this project because...We chose to make this project as disasters, either man-made or natural hugely affect people, many casualties happen in the aftermath of the disaster where the victims cannot ask for help. And to give a cost effective and viable solution for this problem.
What we found difficult and how we worked it outOne of the problem that we have encountered while building this project was setting up an ad-hoc mesh network between the pi's, we had to try for several weeks fixing one error after another to build the mesh network.
Next time, we would...I would make small modifications to the code but nothing major as time was not a constraint but funding was, if we had more funding we would've used SDR's (software defined radio's) To add more features to the project, such as the ability to make voice calls and texts from keypad phones.
