The Pet Tracker

The Project

This project is used to track your pets' whereabouts if you don't know where they are. To start tracking your pet, press button A on both devices (the transmitter and the receiver) and it will display “ON” (on the receiver only). The LEDs represent the signal strength. If the LEDs are filled to the top, the strength is strong, and you are close to your pet, but if your LEDs are closer to the bottom of the display, you are further away from your pet. The closer you are to your pet, the more LEDs are shown and the further you are, the fewer LEDs are shown.

We chose to make this project because...

For pet owners, their pets are their world. Having a pet tracker would be a significant tool to keep our pets safe. The items that are incorporated into our project are quite small but have a big impact on others. Despite its size, a microbit could potentially save your pet's life.

What we found difficult and how we worked it out

We tried to make the battery usage more efficient. We achieved this by programming buttons A and B differently. To start, our microbits had protective cases, we realised that these interfered with the sensors - when we used ones without cases, the sensors were more accurate.

Next time, we would...

If we improved this project, we would clean up our physical component and we would improve the code to make it more accurate.
