Eco Light

The Project

This is an eco light. It is made to reduce the amount of light wasted each year. In return, we designed a light that automatically turns on and off as you close and create distance with the LED light. This project works as it measures the signal strength concurrently sent out from the Micro-bit. On the receiving side, the Micro-bit measures the signal strength and converts the number using the absolute value of the number and decides whether to activate the digital pin; sending an electrical current to turn on the light.

We chose to make this project because...

We chose to make this project because we wanted to create something that hopefully would create a meaningful impact on the world. With the amount of electricity and carbon emissions with 12% of our electricity wasted. In addition, we wanted an easy and accessible build reducing our carbon footprint.

What we found difficult and how we worked it out

We found some difficulties in getting the sensor to work. We then found out that we could use the Signal Strength instead of measuring whether the Micro-bit got the message or not which our original idea was. After finding the Signal Packet Strength we were able to complete the rest.

Next time, we would...

We would have better cable management and set the cables up to be more space efficient. We could add a safety feature for managing the brightness of lights in certain spaces such as kitchens, living rooms, etc. Other than that we wouldn’t change anything else except for minor tweaks in the project.
