Glove for blind people to measure distances

The Project

This glove could replace the white cane for blind people in the future. It works the same way as parking sensors work in cars. When someone who is wearing the glove gets closer to some obstacle, he is notified with a sound alarm. Ultrasound sensor sends a signal, which comes back after some time after it reaches some obstacle. The time measurement is transferred to distance by Arduino. According to the different distances it will start further features.

Team Comments

We chose to make this project because...

We wanted to create something that could be useful in real life. Something that could help people.

What we found difficult and how we worked it out

We were thinking for a long time, how to attach the sensor to the hand. Then we managed to get a glove for go-pro, where we were able to attach the sensor.

Next time, we would...

We would add a gyroscope, so it would be possible to recognize how the hand with the glove is tilted. Thanks to this information we could measure the distance of the surrounding objects and the distance from the ground. We would also like if the module would use small vibration engines.
