Smart Stick

The Project

Hi my name is Jay and my project is called "Smart Stick". The project is my attempt to make a modern Stick for the people who have difficulties with vision. The Smart Stick will help people navigate the surrounding. It is based on a Raspberry pi, ultrasonic sensor and a buzzer. When the sensor detects an obstruction it will beep repeatedly. Closer the obstruction faster the beeps.

Team Comments

I wanted to use technology to make life easy for people who are differently abled. The Smart Stick project using a Raspberry pi helps people to safely navigate the surrounding environment. I also wanted to see if I can make a project and code in Python using information on the raspberry pi website.

The difficult parts of the project are the Circuit and the coding in Python. The most difficult bit was to use the ultrasonic sensor and how to code so it detects the objects. I used the Raspberry pi website and some other websites for help and information.

I would like to add a soft voice to alert than a buzzer. Also I would like to add a vibration motor to the Smart Stick to warn if there is a lot noise in the surrounding environment. Also a camera can be used to detect objects.
