The Project
WeighIn is an AI-powered Public Forum debate practice app that helps students prepare for tournaments and become more confident speakers. Users choose a topic, side, speaker order, and speech stage, then practice through realistic debate rounds, including crossfire-style responses. After practice, the app gives feedback like a judge, helping users improve argument clarity, evidence use, organization, and weighing. I was inspired by my own experience as a debater and by seeing how nervous students can feel before tournaments or public speaking. I wanted to create a tool that makes debate practice more accessible, supportive, and less intimidating. The hardest part was designing the AI to respond like a real debate opponent while still giving useful feedback that helps students grow.
