HopeLink

The Project

Finding help shouldn’t be difficult, especially when every second counts. HopeLink is an interactive app that helps people in Toronto quickly find nearby shelter, food, medical, hygiene, and transportation services. The idea came from the problem that, in urgent situations, the people who most need help may not have a charged phone, mobile data, or the time to navigate complicated websites. HopeLink strips that process down to its essential components. Users begin by selecting a language and the type of services they are seeking, and HopeLink shows them nearby services through a Google Maps interface. Users can see what services are open right now, compare different locations, and find the closest option. The platform is designed to be warm and approachable, with large icons and clean, bright colors. It supports both English and French and handles user data anonymously. HopeLink is designed not only for personal devices, but also for kiosks in public spaces such as subway stations, shelters, churches, and community centres. That means people can access help even without owning a personal device. Ultimately, HopeLink is about dignity: making essential services easier to find, safer to access, and more human to navigate.
