ArtLens
The Project
ArtLens is an AI-powered augmented reality glasses project designed to make art more accessible, interactive, and engaging to museum visitors. The project recognizes artwork, provides real-time explanations about the piece, which can be customized to the user's needs, and includes the artwork's meaning, historical context, and visual details. I was inspired by my experience of walking through museums without fully understanding what I am looking at and unable to ask questions about the artworks I am seeing, especially when the information on the plaques next to the artworks are limited and not informational. The most difficult part about figuring out how to combine AI, computer vision, and AR into one smooth experience. Designing a system that could identify artworks accurately, generate helpful explanations, and display information was a challenging process. Through this project, I learned how to make AI oriented towards learning and engaging users rather than automation.
