GCSE.work

The Project

GCSE.work is a website I created that has a list of online GCSE revision resources. It's stylish, easy to use and completely free. Plus, it's transparent, listing the legal entity behind each website so that students know what they're clicking. Transparency is so important as education as it effects people's lives and children should be protected online. I've not invented the next life changing, revolutionary thing, but I've just put all the resources in one place, so from the most organised learner, to even the person doing last minute, quick revision can find the resources they need.

I chose to make this project because...

Revision is difficult, but it's even more difficult when you have no idea where to go or what to do. The solution is a website like GCSE.work that gives you one landing page to end the confusion. With descriptions and metadata you can find the resources you need, even if you've never revised before.

What I found difficult and how I worked it out

At first I was using my own Javascript to manipulate the HTML for the category search options, but it wasn't working very well and was inefficient. So, instead I implemented a JS library called Isotope that did what I was trying to do for me with great animation too.

Next time, I would...

I currently want to add more subjects including BTECs and other qualifications that might not come under the GCSE umbrella. I also want to improve the backend of the site by using a database to load the resources, such as ones I have used before like MongoDB and Deta Base.
