Smart Doorbell
The Project
DoorLink is a custom-built smart doorbell powered by a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W. It streams live video and audio, recognises visitors by face or NFC chip, and lets you open the door remotely — all from an Android app built in Android Studio. The backend server and all device logic were written in Python. Development was assisted by Claude Code, an AI coding agent, which helped tackle complex programming challenges across the project. The full codebase is open source on GitHub: https://github.com/JTechCzech/doorlink Building it taught me that real-world hardware projects are unforgiving — moisture destroyed my first Raspberry Pi, which led me to redesign a sealed, weatherproof enclosure. The project took over two months of intensive work.
