VR Immersive Buddhist Debate: Digital Inheritance of Tibetan Buddhist Culture

The Project

My project is a VR immersive Tibetan Buddhist debate experience, designed to address the limited accessibility and static presentation of traditional Tibetan Buddhist culture. Inspired by my visit to monasteries and the desire to make these cultural practices more engaging and understandable, I developed a 3D interactive experience using Unity and C#. The project features three key scenes: a debate hall where users can observe and interact with the ritual, a digital scripture library for learning, and a prayer wheel plaza for cultural immersion. I overcame challenges like optimizing VR performance and recreating the complex logic of debate interactions, while prioritizing cultural accuracy. Designed for education and public engagement, this low-cost VR experience makes Tibetan Buddhist heritage accessible to all, promoting cultural preservation and cross-cultural understanding.

Watching this video taught me a lot about Tibetan Buddhism, and I really enjoyed learning about it. By presenting the experience in VR, you made it feel as though I was actually there, immersed in the atmosphere of the temple and its traditions. I was especially impressed that the project was inspired by your real-life visit to a monastery and that you used Unity and C# to create such an interactive experience. Recreating the logic behind the debate practice must have been particularly challenging, and I could tell that a great deal of care was taken to preserve its cultural authenticity and accuracy. I think this is a very meaningful project that not only helps educate people about Tibetan Buddhism, but also contributes to cultural preservation and promotes understanding between different cultures.
