Sub Racers

The Project

Sub Racers is a 3D racing game created as a tribute to ocean conservation and David Attenborough's 100th birthday. It was made to help raise awareness of the challenges that face our oceans. The incredible documentaries made by David Attenborough were the main inspiration for this project as well as my own love for the sea! The most difficult part was both environmental design and creating the enemy racer. Making the environment was difficult as it had to be realistic enough that people feel that they are part of the game and therefore part of the effort to save our oceans. Making the enemy racer was difficult because it involved trying out numerous methods to find what suited the project best for keeping it competitive, interactable and most of all, fun!

Judge Feedback

Absolutely amazing project and great technical deep dive (ha) into the game design and details of things like the AI. Loved that Godot was used. Such a cool game engine and open source too! Great choice. Especially loved the idea of focusing on celebrating Sir David Attenborough's birthday. And as a musician myself, I loved that custom music was made for the game. Incredible work all around.
