TeamEVAC - An Immersive Campus Simulation Protection and Safety Improvement System using Artificial Intelligence

The Project

TeamEVAC is a VR-based emergency preparedness game designed to address a critical gap in how schools train students for real-life crises like fires and active shooter situations. Despite the rise in school emergencies, traditional drills remain outdated, repetitive, and disengaging. Most students are unprepared to respond appropriately under stress because these drills lack realism, emotional impact, and decision-making practice. Our solution uses immersive virtual reality to simulate realistic emergency scenarios where students must think critically and respond under pressure. Unlike static drills, TeamEVAC creates interactive, high-stress environments that mirror real-world emergencies. Players face decision points, experience immediate consequences, and practice vital safety procedures in a memorable and emotionally engaging way. This interactive approach significantly improves retention, confidence, and response times in actual emergencies. The game features customizable environments based on each school’s layout and risk profile, enabling educators to tailor training for their specific needs—whether it's fire evacuation, lockdown protocols, or flood response. TeamEVAC also includes multiple play modes, including guided tutorials and multiplayer team simulations, which help build both individual and group readiness. What makes TeamEVAC stand out is its unique blend of immersion, interactivity, and scalability. Schools can integrate it with existing VR setups, and because the game is easily customizable and hardware-flexible, it works across diverse school sizes and budgets. As VR technology becomes more accessible, TeamEVAC provides a sustainable, modern solution to an increasingly urgent problem. We developed TeamEVAC with a mission-driven approach: to give students the chance to learn by doing. Our backgrounds in machine learning, game development, and educational outreach fueled our vision of creating a powerful, accessible tool that bridges the gap between knowledge and action. From designing game logic to testing with students and educators, we ensured each decision point in the game was grounded in real-world emergency protocols. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive—students felt more capable and engaged, and teachers saw noticeable improvements in focus and retention compared to traditional drills. By combining cutting-edge technology with practical training needs, TeamEVAC is more than just a game—it’s a step toward transforming how schools prepare for the unthinkable. We believe TeamEVAC can redefine emergency preparedness in education by making training not only more effective but also more human—because in a crisis, knowledge isn’t enough. Practice, realism, and readiness can make all the difference.
