The Smart Home System

The Project

Inspired by the idea of the Future City, we designed a Smart Home system using the micro:bit. Each module addresses a different real-life need—from plant care to emergency alerts—while remaining easy to expand. The Smart Home system includes 5 parts: The Smart Plant Waterer uses a built-in timer and a water pump to automatically water plants at regular intervals, ensuring they stay healthy even when no one is home. The Earthquake Alarm uses the accelerometer feature to detect strong shaking and trigger an alarm with sound and lights to guide evacuation.. The Security Alarm uses the micro:bit’s magnetometer and radio features. When the door opens, it sends a warning message to the owner, enabling a quick response. The Smart Light uses the built-in light sensor to turn on an LED when it's too dark and sound an alert when the light is too bright to protect our eyes. The Smart Fan uses the temperature sensor to detect heat and activates a fan with a servo motor to keep us comfortable Building this system helped us understand the importance of connecting software with hardware to solve practical problems. More importantly, it showed us how technology—even something as small as a micro:bit—can make a meaningful difference in our daily life.
