Asteroids SE (Arcade)

The Project

Our Scratch project is a remake of the famous Arcade game Asteroids - one of the most amazing video games in the early history of them at 20th Century. We decided to "revive" it with a whole set of new functionalities and web design. So, not only children, but all adults who played Asteroids as children will have a lot of fun. We drеw everything in the game by ourselves. In order to achieve convincing effects, we had to search the Internet for information about complex mathematical functions that we do not study in school in 7th grade, such as logarithms, trigonometric functions, etc. We read about them and applied what we learned in the code. With this project, we want to inspire children to learn STEM science and see how easily you can learn new things while making games. In order for all three of us to take part, each of us learned a specific profession and entered into that role. Alex became Project Manager and Designer, Anton - Senior Programmer, and Victor - Quality assurance and Technical writer. We worked as a team online during the pandemic and learned how to be more flexible teammates, resolve conflicts together and help each other so that we don't feel lonely at home. We did not use any adult assistance during the project!!! We proved that it is possible for 3 kids working remotely for 2 months to work together and make their dream come true with an amazing game! Our project aims to teach more children how we can deal with difficulties while staying at home during online learning. The motto of our project is : Play - Have fun - Code and Learn ! 1. Tell us about your project. Why did you choose to make it? Answer: Our Scratch project is a re-make of the famous Arcade game Asteroids - one of the most amazing video games in the early history of them, at 20th sentury (when we haven't been born yet). We decided to "revive" it with a whole set of new functionalities and web design. So that, not only children, but all adults who played Asteroids as children to have a lot of fun. We drеw everithing in the game by ourselves. With this project, we want to inspire children to learn STEM science and see how easily you can learn new things while making games - exactly as we learned so much while making this project! Our project aims to teach more students how we can deal with difficulties while staying at home during online learning. It is possible - we did it. The motto of our project is : Play - Have fun - Code and Learn ! 2. What did you find difficult while making your project and how did you work it out? Answer: In order to achieve convincing effects, we had to search the Internet for information about complex mathematical functions that we do not study in school in 7th grade, such as logarithms, trigonometric functions, etc. Actually, we are supposed to study them not earlier than 10-11 grade. So, we read about them by ourselves and applied what we learned into the code. It was an really hard task! But we united and it somehow happened. In order for all three of us to take part, each of us learned a lot about a specific profession and entered into that role. Alex became Project Manager and Designer, Anton - Senior Programmer, and Victor - Quality assurance and Technical writer. Each of us had their own tasks to perform and deadlines to meet. We learned more about Agile technologies and how make Sprint review, as a real development team. We worked hard as crazy until the end. We did all as a team online during the pandemic and learned how to be more flexible teammates, resolve conflicts together and help each other so that we don't feel lonely at home. We did not use any adult assistance during the project!!! Actually, our parents didn't know at all about what are we working on. We proved that it is possible for 3 kids communicating remotely for 2 months to make their dream come true with an amazing game! 3. Is there anything you would do differently or you would add if you had more time? Yes, we are currently preparing next version of the project with more achievements and better design. Our small team will challenge itself by taking part in an important web game competition to compete with high school and university students. No matter what happens, we are so proud of ourselves! To work in team is really cool, try it on!
