ScreenTamer: The Algorithmic Cure for Adolescent Tech Addiction
The Project
The widespread addiction to technology among adolescents has severe implications for their physical and mental health, hindering their ability to develop healthy habits and a balanced relationship with technology, this deeply resonated with me because I was also addicted to my device. These two things are what inspired the creation of this project. I was set on creating a solution. But there were many challenges such as users constantly finding new bugs to exploit within the program. Yet, through a series of prototypes and user testing, my project’s results show a consistent trend of decreasing screen time among adolescents. The final prototype even achieving an average decrease in screen time of 80 minutes, demonstrating the effectiveness of my approach. My innovative solution offers a subtle yet impactful way to disrupt entrenched technology usage patterns, promoting healthier tech habits and digital well-being among adolescents.
