Delfi-The Dolphin

The Project

Delfi - The Dolphin is a game that is based on physics, more so about mechanical waves. We wanted to teach people about this subject, but we all know how hard psysics can be! So that's how our game was born. We first started by brainstorming ideas, which was a fail because our best ideas come from the most random thoughts. When we finally had a revelation, we found out that dolphins use their sonar to navigate in the ocean, we knew this part, but the actual interesting fact is that they use mechanical waves that practically go all around them and once it hits something it reflects and he knows where the certain object is located. So, with this in mind we started creating an unique characther, Delfi, his name originating from Romanian (our primary language) which is short for "Delfin", meaning, obviously, dolphin. We started by making the graphics from scratch almost, a big step up for us, considering we had almost to none experience in this field, but with the power of the almighty YouTube we discovered we can do anything. After we finished most of the graphics, we continued with the code, going from error to error, from laughs to cries, from days to nights. In less words, we struggled, but we managed to make it work somehow. Besides the graphics and the code, we believe that the story pulled everything toghether, we created an intricate storyline in which Delfi needs to help the animals in the ocean because, Cali the squid has covered the whole ocean with his ink, and no one can see anymore. The game starts with a short storyline in which a fish comes to ask for help and Delfi accepts the quest. While he tries to get to Cali to sort everything out, he needs to protect himself from the dangers of the ocean, such as ships, garbage, bombs and bigger animals.

We chose to make this project because...

We chose to make this project in hopes that we can help teach children about the amazing subject that is teached in schools, psyhics, making it easier by playing a game that shows you directly an predefined example. Also it was our dream to develop games.

What we found difficult and how we worked it out

The most difficult thing about this project was balancing school work and our game. We mostly worked from 10 PM to 3 AM, leaving about 3 hours to sleep. Also the fact that we didn't know almost nothing about programming, editing photos, creating photos and so on, but we watched a lot of tutorials an

Next time, we would...

If we had more time, we think we would add more to the story. That's what we liked the most about this game so that's what we would do. Maybe adding more levels, more conversations, more actions that the player can chose from.
