The Project

FIRST is an organization for inspiring kids to do robotics and STEM through a series of competitions such as FLL. This website helps newcomers learn how FLL competitions work and how to build better robots. Besides useful tips and tutorials, the website also includes a mobile-friendly scoring calculator. I chose to make this project because I’ve seen many beginner FLL robotics teams struggle to find useful information and practical advice.

A challenge for the built-in scoring calculator was supporting different seasons and validating numeric inputs. I solved this by creating a generic format for each season with built-in JavaScript validation functions where necessary. More challenges explained in video.

If I had more time, I would add more content to the main website and program a backend for the scoring calculator to be able to show a leaderboard at competitions.
