Career Compass

The Project

Career Compass is a mobile app that is designed to help high school students in finding their way around the job market by offering a user-friendly map-based interface that displays nearby jobs. This tool utilizes AI to help students identify job openings that match their interests and skills. For students who might not have the necessary skills for certain jobs, the app provides AI-generated educational resources and training lessons that help them acquire or at least touch upon those missing skills. There are also features that help with resume building.

I chose to make this project because...

I chose to create the app because I recognized a significant challenge faced by high school students: the difficulty in finding job opportunities and then learning the necessary skills for those jobs. I know this because this was a struggle that I actually went through while job searching myself.

What I found difficult and how I worked it out

One significant challenge was dealing with bugs and making sure the location services worked. To address these problems, I implemented a debugging process, running the app in different environments and under different conditions to replicate the bugs. After the bugs were found, solving it was easy.

Next time, I would...

If I had more time, I would enhance the capabilities of the AI to offer even better career advice and also expand the database to include more job opportunities, making sure users from more regions can access the app.
