Time Warp

The Project

Time Warp is a 3D puzzle-platformer game made in Unreal Engine 5, players control time (referred to as Time Dilation) to solve puzzles and escape various challenging rooms. It's possible to stop time entirely (Affecting the whole world around you, even bullets! How cool is that) or fast-forward it. The Time-Dilation mechanic creates creative puzzles and rooms to escape, allowing for fun gameplay. Some levels include challenges like navigating through a lava-filled parkour room, pausing objects mid-air to create platforms, and slowing time to safely land on objects above a deep pit. The final level is an arena where players must dodge fast-moving bullets by slowing time, creating cinematic and thrilling gameplay sequences. The project was developed over two weeks using Unreal Engine 5 blueprints, with several months dedicated to learning the engine.

I chose to make this project because...

Mainly to challenge myself and create a unique gameplay experience, combining my love for puzzles and time manipulation mechanics. It was fun to combine something as COOL as time control, with game physics and awesome fight sequences. Learning UE5 unlocks a whole world of doors for me to explore.

What I found difficult and how I worked it out

Learning Unreal Engine 5 was tough, especially using blueprints. I overcame this by dedicating several months to studying tutorials, experimenting, and troubleshooting issues persistently. Solving problems and bugs is the most satisfying part of programming, knowing there is nothing to stop you.

Next time, I would...

With more time, I would add several more levels utilising the main game mechanics, refine the enemy AI and add more gameplay, and enhance the graphics and animations for a more polished experience.
