Ocean Pulse

The Project

Ocean contamination, worsened by the ongoing pile-up of plastic debris, represents a serious risk to aquatic life and human well-being by ingesting tainted seafood and many other factors. In response to this urgent challenge, the project's initiative is to develop a unique mobile application designed to encourage community participation in cleaning up our oceans. Utilizing technological advancements, this app integrates cloud-based databases for instant data exchange, employs machine learning algorithms to identify potential litter hotspots, and utilizes Google Maps for accurate location tracking. Available on Google Play and soon on the Apple Store, the app aims to support local volunteer groups/organizations by facilitating beach cleaning activities and games. Beyond this primary purpose, the app offers functionalities such as instantaneous litter reporting and cleanup site localization, predictive analytics on litter volumes using machine learning, and straightforward navigation for users. Specifically, it allows users to pinpoint litter locations for organizing community-led cleanup events, with machine learning providing litter quantity estimates to streamline cleanup planning. Google Maps integration ensures easy access to cleanup locations, and the app incorporates mechanisms to verify user reports, ensuring data integrity. To sum up, through merging technological innovation with community activism, the project aims to draw user involvement in impactful environmental actions highlighting its capacity to contribute to worldwide ocean conservation endeavors.
