Digital Harmony
The Project
In the era of advanced digital communication, children and teenagers are facing new challenges, particularly the spread of cyberbullying. According to a study conducted by UNICEF, 43% of users have experienced online bullying, with 71% of them belonging to the age group between 15 and 24, which encompasses various harmful behaviors such as cyber harassment, spreading rumors, and more. These negative experiences have a significant impact on children's health and safety, leading to negative psychological and social effects that affect their personal growth and development. From this perspective, the importance and necessity of effective and comprehensive solutions to address this issue and protect children and teenagers from its harmful effects become evident. Our project aims to provide a safe and healthy online environment for children and offer necessary support to them and their parents in facing these challenges. Through an interactive application, children can access a set of daily questions that help them express their feelings and identify any signs of cyberbullying. Their answers are analyzed using advanced techniques to detect any abnormal patterns in their digital behavior, and based on that, necessary measures are taken to protect them and provide appropriate support. Using the concept of "Mario Effect," children are encouraged to engage with the application and continue using it by offering rewards and incentives such as free consultations with cyberbullying specialists or additional educational materials on how to deal with online challenges. Additionally, parents receive daily reports that illustrate their children's online status and interactions, along with providing tips and guidance on how to support and assist their child in dealing with the challenges they may encounter online.
Team Comments
I chose to make this project because...I created this project because of the rising issue of cyberbullying affecting children and teenagers. Alarming statistics and the negative impact on mental well-being inspired me to develop an interactive platform for support and safety in the digital world.
What I found difficult and how I worked it outOne of the main challenges was developing an accurate algorithm to detect cyberbullying amidst varied online behaviors. Collaboration with experts in psychology and data analysis helped refine this algorithm. Ensuring user data privacy was another priority too
Next time, I would...With more time, I'd refine the cyberbullying detection algorithm and expand the platform's resources for users and parents. More testing and feedback rounds would also ensure its effectiveness and usability.
