TerraCharge
The Project
This project is a combination of a smart Irrigation System and Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC). The smart irrigation system is made using a soil moisture sensor. The rainwater collector collects rainwater which is then used to irrigate fields when needed. The Microbial Fuel Cell is a 2 chambered MFC sytem wherein the anode and cathode perform a biochemical reaction to produce electricity which can be used to power farm inputs.
Team Comments
We chose to make this project because...We chose to make this project because it saves time, resources and reduces human intervention. It provides an efficient way for farmers to irrigate their fields at the right time with the appropriate amount of water. The water used is the water collected from rains. It increases productivity of farmr
What we found difficult and how we worked it outWe found it difficult to generate enough amounts of electricity from the MFC. We worked it out by changing the material of the anode and letting it sit for a few days, we used a mixture of distilled water and tap water to get more output. The salt bridge of the MFC also took us a few attempts to mak
Next time, we would...Yes, we would have added in an automatic photo generator for the continuous growth plants in dark or cloudy days where is defficiancy of sunlight. We would've added in photoreceptors to sense the sunlight and automatically turn on the photo generators. We would have also added an automatic trapdoor
