ArtHub

The Project

ArtHub is a 3D virtual gallery that people can use to exhibit their creations to a global audience. It is built using the Unity 3D game engine and is programmed in C#. It can empower underrepresented artists by providing a platform for them to showcase their talents, connect with audiences, and thrive in the art world. It can also help educators to seamlessly exhibit their students' artwork in a dynamic digital space, and foster creativity and expression among K-12 students, regardless of their socio-economic background or geographic location. ArtHub is compatible with the Meta Quest 2 headset. Viewers can wear a VR headset to simulate the experience of an in person gallery. If they don’t have a VR headset, ArtHub can still provide an immersive experience.

We chose to make this project because...

Cindy, a World Relief volunteer, found talented refugee kids' artwork unnoticed. Ada, passionate about art, saw limited chances for students to showcase artwork. Together, they made this 3D virtual gallery. With ArtHub, they wanted to build a community, spark conversations, and drive social change.

What we found difficult and how we worked it out

How to store the artwork and make sure other people can see it? We used multiplayer game methods, with one device as a "server" streaming data to others. Alternatively, we used a cloud database for stability. However, this means that we would not be able to implement live interaction between users.

Next time, we would...

Users must select a frame size to match their artwork's dimensions. ArtHub’s current frames come in various sizes, yet may not align perfectly. We can use auto-resizable frames or a UI canvas for automatic resizing. We also want to create customizable gallery backgrounds to cater to different themes.
